Richard Andrew Deitz (born August 1965) is an American hedge fund manager who is President, Founder, and Fund Manager of VR Capital and one of the founders of Renaissance Capital.

Education

Deitz graduated with a degree in economics and history from Yale University in 1987.

Career

Deitz started his career at The First Boston Corporation in 1987. From 1991-1995, he served as Managing Director at Credit Suisse International and in 1995, he cofounded Renaissance Capital.

Deitz founded VR Capital in 1998. VR Capital specializes in distressed debt in global emerging markets where bankruptcy and judiciary practices are suspect through its flagship fund, VR Global Partners, which oversees roughly $3 billion in onshore and offshore versions. The fund has taken significant positions in State Savings Bank of Ukraine, Ukraine’s state-run energy company NAK Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russia’s Brunswick Rail. In the first 10 months of 2010, VR Capital achieved a 49 percent return and in 2015, returned 14.7 percent, ranking 28th in the Bloomberg list of top-performing large hedge funds.

Board memberships

He has served as a Commissioner of PT BFI Finance Indonesia Tbk since 2009 and also serves as a member of the board of advisors at The Yale School of Management. He also serves of the President's Council on International Activities and on the Jackson Institute Council at Yale University.

Personal life

Deitz is married to Marina Nacheva.
