Ricardo Semprun Leloup (born October 27, 1959) is a Spanish diplomat and businessman. He is serving as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C., a role which he assumed on March 18, 2007.

Early life

Semprun was born in Madrid, Spain and raised in Paris, France. He is the third of five children of the writer, politician, and former Minister of Culture for Spain Jorge Semprun and the French film-editor Colette Leloup.
He is the grandson of the Spanish diplomat Jose Maria Semprun Gurrea and great-son of Antonio Maura, Prime Minister of Spain on five separate occasions.

Personal life

In 1984, he married Greta Bernal Capozzi. They have one child, Rodrigo Semprun (born 1985).

Education

Semprun studied at Ecole des Roches until HighSchool.
After graduated with an International Relations degree from Georgetown University, Semprun who speaks five languages (Spanish, French, English, Italian and German) fluently, joined the diplomatic service in 1984.
