Dr. Riaz Haider is a Washington, D.C. cardiologist and a former Clinical Professor of Medicine at George Washington University. He currently lives in Potomac, Maryland with his wife Yasmeen.

He was born in Sheikhupur, British India (now in Pakistan) on July 2, 1934. After early medical education at The King Edward Medical College in Lahore, he received his advanced medical training at Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh and at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College, London.
At Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College, London, a center of excellence which attracts cardiology Fellows from around the world he as Senior Registrar directed the cardiac catheterization laboratories. He has practiced and taught cardiology in Washington DC metro area for nearly 40 years. At Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. as chief of cardiology (1974-1993) he was a pioneer in introducing diagnostic cardiac ultrasound, heart pacemakers, exercise stress resting and heart catheterization.
He was active in the American Heart Association programs in prevention of heart disease and in promoting cardiovascular research. He was President of the American Heart Association, Nation’s Capital, (1990–92).
In addition to the practice of cardiology and internal medicine he trained and mentored numerous medical students, medical residents and cardiology Fellows. He is the author of several articles based on original research published in international medical journals.
He is Fellow of the American College of Physicians, America College of Cardiology and Royal College of Physicians.
He has been active in philanthropic work and is also board member of the International Student House in Washington, D.C. where he served on several committees. The Student House hosts international students and scholars from all over the world and also provides a platform for globally recognized civic and political leaders to share their vision with the community. He is actively involved in the organization and particularly in initiating residential scholarships program for financially needy students both international and American graduate students who are studying for masters or doctoral degree programs in the Washington area universities.
