Rhomann Dey was the leader of the Nova Corps of Xandar and one of its few survivors. When the Warlord Zorr attacked Xandar he devastated it and killed many Xandarians including Dey's wife, Karman-Kan, and children, Duranna and Kahry. Dey hunted Zorr and battled him.

However, Zorr was too powerful for Dey and mortally wounded him. Dey flew to Earth ahead of Zorr and randomly chose Richard Rider as the new Nova, transferring his power to him. Dey linked minds with Rider and explained to him the new powers he has received as well as the threat of Zorr on his planet.

At first, Rider thought the encounter was a dream, but soon discovered his powers and accepted his role as Nova. While out testing them for the first time he ran into Zorr who was on a rampage in New York City. Nova decided to fulfill Dey's dying wish and defeat Zorr. During the battle, Zorr was teleported away by Dey himself. Dey killed Zorr before he himself died, ready to join his family and friends in the afterlife.

Rhommann Sur was an alien who crashed landed on Earth, and his green power battery brought billionaire inventor Hal Stark to his ship, but Stark was injured during the travel with metal shrapnel piercing his body. He took Rhommann's power battery and became Iron Lantern.

Television

  • Rhomann Dey appears in the Guardians of the Galaxy episode "Origins," voiced by Jeff Bennett. He was present with Titus on Xandar when Drax the Destroyer turned himself over to the Nova Corps in exchange that the aliens that were taken prisoner by Ronan the Accuser were returned to their own planets. In the episode "Space Cowboys," Rhomann Dey and the Nova Corps members confronted the Guardians of the Galaxy when they were tipped off that they were taking the Moombas to the Grandmaster on Conjunction. He then witnessed as the Moombas opened a portal that dragged the Moombas and the Milano to an area close to Conjunction. When Yondu's Ravagers bring the explosive Moombas close to Knowhere on Grandmaster's behalf, Rhomann and the rest of the Nova Corps was contacted by Cosmo the Spacedog to help the Guardians of the Galaxy. Cosmo told Rhomann about Collector being behind the Moomba trafficking causing Rhomann to contact Collector about it. Collector disavowed any knowledge of that and got away. While making sure that the Guardians of the Galaxy transported the Moombas to a safe location, Rhomann and the Nova Corps then pursued the fleeing Ravagers.
