Early life

Green comes from in Cobb County, Georgia. Before attending college, Green served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1993. While serving as a Marine, he received the Good Conduct and National Defense Service Medals and was promoted twice. After four years of active duty, he was Honorably Discharged and attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. After his B.A., Green pursued his Juris Doctorate at Emory University School of Law and graduated with Honors.

Career

Green began his career in private practice at the Atlanta law firm of King & Spalding, in Washington, DC. The 9/11 events pushed triggered Green to return to Cobb County Georgia to serve his country again. He became Assistant District Attorney in the Cobb Judicial Circuit and then Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Georgia. Green quickly transitioned to Assistant District Attorney in the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, and in the DeKalb County Solicitor General’s Office. Green served as State and Federal Prosecutor in the Cobb County District Attorney's Office until Governor Sonny Perdue (R-GA) appointed him to the Cobb Superior Court in 2010.

Green ran for re-election to the seat in 2012 and won 54.79% to 45.06%. In 2014, Green started the Cobb County Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court.

Cobb County Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court

In 2014, Judge Green started the Cobb County Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court. The Veterans Court works with honorably discharged veterans who have service connected issues that have led them, in part, to be involved in the criminal justice system. Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Hugh P. Thompson made a special visit to Cobb County’s Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court Friday, January 9, 2016. “Veterans courts are relatively new to Georgia and Cobb County is one of the first,” Thompson said. “I am proud of Judge Reuben Green for leading this effort. I look forward to … lending my support.” Cobb County is home to the most veterans in Georgia — almost 50,000, or about 10 percent of the state’s veteran population.

Personal life

Green is active in the legal community, involved as a member of the Marine Corps Association of Georgia Lawyers, the Charles Weltner Family Law Inn of Court, Cobb County Bar Association, and the State Bar of Georgia. He is also an annual Judge in the Georgia Intrastate Moot court Competition.

Green is involved in his local community in Cobb County: incoming President of the Rotary Club of Marietta, Green has served with Must Ministries, Marietta Mentoring for Leadership, the Continuum of Care Board for Cobb County, the Atlanta Chapter of the Federalist Society, Boy Scouts of America, the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, and the Marietta Pilgrimage Tour.

Green teaches courses and lectures on the law, professionalism, and criminal justice at Emory University School of Law, Kennesaw State University, and Chattahoochee Technical College, the Charles Weltner Family Law Inn of Court, the State Bar of Georgia, and the Cobb County Bar Association.
