The reseda country club

The Reseda Country Club was a nightclub and music venue located at 18419 Sherman Way in Reseda, California. It started off as a drug store in the 1950s and later became a music venue in 1979 when Chuck Landis purchased the site. The club was leased by concert promoters Steve Wolf and Jim Rismiller in 1979. They were the major promoters in Los Angeles and were able to book premier shows of all types. Still, the club had many problems. In December of 1980, they made a partnership with Gary LoConti, the Vice President and an originator of The Agora Ballroom chain of Concert clubs. This combination allowed the connection of 13 more venues, with the Country Club and experienced management. The club became a, if not "the" Premiere showcase in the U.S. Winning the Billboard Club of the Year Award and the Performance Magazine club of the year award,(among many) It is still viewed as a Golden Age of Rock and Roll in L.A. The club hosted concerts until it closed sometime in the late 1990s. Notable acts included Guns N' Roses, Stryper, B.B. King, Roy Orbison, Iggy Pop, Slayer, Robert Plant, Motörhead, UFO, Joan Jett, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mötley Crüe, The Beach Boys, Huey Lewis and the News, The Motels, U2, Alcatrazz, Beastie Boys, W.A.S.P., Saxon, Bob Weir, Social Distortion, Fugazi, Kiss, Soundgarden, Half Way Home, Bad Religion, Mentors, Armored Saint, Bon Jovi, Nirvana, James Brown, System of a Down, Tom Petty, Metallica, who performed their first show following the death of bassist Cliff Burton at the venue, Megadeth and Blue Öyster Cult. It was used for video shoots for Mick Jagger, Greg Kihn Band, Gary U.S. Bonds and Bruce Dickinson. Part of the film Boogie Nights was shot at the club. The site is now a Spanish-language Christian church.
