The inaugural season of the action comedy science fiction machinima web series Red vs. Blue premiered on April 1, 2003 on Rooster Teeth's official website. The season consists of 19 episodes, and concluded on September 28, 2003. The series is loosely based in the Halo universe, and is created by Rooster Teeth Productions.

Contents

The series follows the accounts of the Red Team which consists of: The leader, Sarge; the lazy one, Grif; the "kiss ass", Simmons; the semi-idiotic Donut; and the Spanish robot Lopez. The series also follows the accounts of the Blue Team, which consists of their De facto leader, Church; the self-proclaimed ladies' man, Tucker; and the clueless Caboose. The Freelancer Tex is often associated with the Blue Team. Season one regular characters include Sarge, Simmons, Grif, Donut, Lopez, Church, Tucker, Caboose, Tex, Sheila, and Vic.

The episodes were filmed primarily using machinima techniques, and Halo: Combat Evolved. Episodes were written by members of the Rooster Teeth crew. Episodes aired weekly, and were posted on the Red vs Blue website.

Synopsis

The inaugural season of Red vs. Blue follows the misadventures of Red Team and Blue Team in the boxed-canyon of Blood Gulch. The boring life of the Reds and Blues will turn on its head with the arrival of a mercenary.

  • The narrator attempts to tell the story of Halo and of the brief Red vs. Blue civil war that occurs between the first and second Covenant invasions, but stops to argue with an uncooperative subtitler, who complains about the length of the script. Grif and an unimpressed Simmons discuss this footage.

  • "The Cast" only has a partial list of season 1 characters and features extensive combat and violence. Set to Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff", this episode could not be included on the season 1 DVD for copyright reasons. However it is now included in the Bonus Features DVD, but again, for copyright reasons, it's not the Limp Bizkit song, but instead, it is set to Hollywood Undead's "Undead".
