The Real Estate Council of Alberta is the independent governing authority that sets, regulates and enforces standards for Alberta's Real Estate Broker, mortgage broker, and Real Estate Appraisals industries, and for consumer protection. Through the authority of the Real Estate Act of Alberta, the Real Estate Council of Alberta sets and enforces standards of conduct and education requirements for industry professionals in order to protect the consumer; provide services that enhance and improve the industry; and promote the integrity of the industry. The Real Estate Council of Alberta's mandate is to protect consumers and to provide services that enhance and improve the industry and the business of industry professionals.

Contents

Structure

The Real Estate Council of Alberta has 12 members who are responsible for making and enforcing the rules that provide operating guidelines for industry members. The composition is as follows:

1 member is a residential real estate professional;

1 member is an industrial, commercial or investment real estate professional;

1 member is a property management professional;

1 member is a real estate professional who is not a member of the Alberta Real Estate Association;

1 member is a real estate professional appointed from the Calgary Real Estate Board;

1 member is a real estate professional appointed from the Realtors Association of Edmonton;

2 members are real estate professionals appointed from real estate boards outside of Calgary and Edmonton;

1 member is a mortgage brokerage professional;

1 member is a real estate appraisal professional;

2 members from the public to represent consumer interests.

The Current chair is Chad Griffiths and the Chair-Elect is Krista Bolton.

Executive director

Real Estate Council's Chief Administrative Officer is responsible for ensuring self-regulatory responsibilities, which are assigned to the council, so that they are carried out effectively.
