Raoti / Rawati (Hindi: रावटी) is one of the significant town and tehsil of Ratlam district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Raoti was also a princely sub-state; it was once a part of the Sailana State. It falls in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh.

History

Raoti means a small temporary camp to live. it was placed in the year 1635–1636, when the new Maharaja Ratan singhji came to the throne of Ratlam state. The present rulers of Ratlam Prithiviraj Singh and Gangwal Singh were sent to the Thikana Raoti,

At that time it was the capital of the Ratlam state.

The new rulers of Raoti started developing the sub-state Raoti, The house of the king was known as "GANGWALO KA MAHAL." for a long time Raoti sub-state was under Prithviraj Singh family, but after end of their family.

The second Maharaja of Ratlam Maharaja Chhatrasalsinghji sent his youngest son Maharaja Pratapsinghji to the throne of Raoti. He was the main ruler under whom this sub-state expanded.

After ruling for years he was killed in the war with his own nephew in Sagod, he was called a very great warrior because it is said that after losing his neck from his body he still killed many soldier., Now his small temple is made in the Raniwas's west wall of his palace.

Geography

Raoti is located at 23.2333°N 74.8333°E / 23.2333; 74.8333. It has an average elevation of 377 metres (1240 feet). It is 25 km west from Ratlam by road.

There is a dam and large pond near Raoti named Saroj Sarowar bandh (also known as Dholawad dam). which is 6 km by road.

Demographics

Raoti's total population as per the provisional population data for census 2011 is reported to be 4,948. Males constitute approx 51% of the population and females 49%

Railways

Raoti Rail Station (RTI) is situated 27 km from Ratlam Junction on Ratlam-Godhra section of Western Railways. Not many trains stop at Raoti stations except for few long distance and local trains. Station is 6 km away from the town, however transportation is generally available for commuters.

Roads

Raoti is 34 km from Ratlam via Shivgarh and 25 km via Morwani by road. Raoti is now well connected to nearby towns and villages, thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and NREGA.
