Randeep Singh Sarai (born April 15, 1975) is a Canadian politician who was elected as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Canada to represent the federal electoral district Surrey Centre during the 2015 Canadian federal election.

Early life

Randeep Singh Sarai was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia to Sikh parents who had immigrated from Punjab, India. As a youth he developed a strong background in real estate development and urban planning. After graduating from Burnaby South Secondary School in 1993 Sarai earned his Bachelors of Arts at the University of British Columbia with a major in political science in 1998. He then pursued his dream of attending law school at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2001. Sarai was called to the Bar in 2002, and practiced at a local law firm in Surrey, B.C. before pursuing a career in politics.

Community activism

Over the years Sarai has directed a number of community initiatives and organizations aimed at inspiring and empowering South Asian youth. Sarai founded and served as a Director of Virsa – Supporting Youth Strengthening Families Society and co-founded the South Asian Community Coalition Against Youth Violence, which successfully championed for the creation of the Integrated Gang Task Force in B.C. An active volunteer for the CORSA Foundation, Sarai has worked with his community to help South Asian youth break the cycle of violence. He is a director of 3HO- Healthy, Happy and Holy Organization – a network of people dedicated to living a life that uplifts and inspires.

Federal politics

On October 19, 2015, Randeep Sarai was elected Member of Parliament for Surrey- Centre. He currently sits on the Citizenship and Immigration Committee as well as the Canada- U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Association. As of November, 2016 Randeep Sarai is the Chair of Liberal Party Pacific Caucus. Randeep Sarai is also the Co-Chair of the Canada-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Personal life

Sarai is married to Sarbjeet Sarai and has three children Eesher, Guru Sandesh, and Gurbani. They currently live in Surrey, British Columbia. Eesher possesses athletic talent, such that favoring sports such as hockey. Sarbjeet had originally worked for the Prime Minister of Canada, whereas with time, both individuals had commonalities to continue a progressive social change. Sarai has been given privilege to attend to higher leadership in the Canadian government, such that accompanying the then-Prime Minister to a trip to India, with a visit to the holy city of Amritsar, as well as hosting distinguished political personages with events related to the Sikh community of greater Canada. An interesting story, which details the work ethic of Sarai in his early political career, exhibits how he would go from door-to-door for 3,000 fellow British Columbians, within a two to three month period of time. Sarai has played and continues to play a critical role in the growth of progressive change within the Canadian political system, as well as elaborating on ideas to create further discussion to generate economic viability, and the progressive growth of children of minorities across Canada.
