Ramachandru Tejavath, born on 9 September 1953, is from Collector Thanda of Mahabubabad district. Hails from an agrarian family of Collector Thanda of Seerole village, Kuravi Mandal, Mahabubabad district in Telangana. Parents are late Bheelya Naik Tejavath and late Mangamma Tejavath. He is fifth among nine children. He is married to Bhagyalakshmi Tejavath, an Engineer and blessed with two sons, Varun Raj Tejavath and Prithvi Raj Tejavath, both are engineers from IITs and MBAs from IIM Ahmedabad. Varun Raj Tejavath is an investment banker in London and Prithvi Raj Tejavath is a startup entrepreneur in Bengaluru.

Education

He had early schooling in Seerole village and Mahabubabad town. He graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Osmania University and Post-Graduate in Management from IIM Ahmedabad,1976. He has also got Diploma in Public Administration from Syracuse University, NY, USA, 2007.

He strongly believes that we can bring in social and economic changes only through proper and appropriate education. It is essential for children to have strong foundation in early education in mother tongue or the language in which the child can get support at home or in the environment. In addition to literature, science and mathematics, the child must be exposed to Indian traditions, culture, history etc.

Professional life

He worked for IBM-CMC (1978-83) before joining IPS (1983) and then IAS in 1984. He has vast corporate and administrative experience, both at Odisha State and Government of India, spanning over a period of 35 years. Administrative experience during various assignments, inter alia, includes Collector and District Magistrate, Divisional Commissioner for ten Districts, General Manager DIC, Additional Director of Industries, Director of Industries, Director of Technical Education and Training, Director of Textiles and Hand looms, Additional Secretary Industries, Principal Secretary Industries, Secretary to the Chief Minister Odisha, Secretary to Governor Odisha., Director International Cooperation in Defence, Joint Secretary for Ordnance Factories and Missiles Production in Ministry of Defence.

His main forte is in promotion and development of Industries, mainly in electronics and Defence products, steel, ferro alloys, aluminium, power, cement etc. He was instrumental in private sector participation in Defence production. He encouraged SMEs and large Indian Industries to take up Defence production by issuing industrial licenses to them.

During service coordinated with UN Agencies, World Bank, development Banks like IDBI, SIDBI and NABARD, Industries Federations like CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM. He led several international delegations in Defence and security matters, handled about 50 very high level Defence delegations and finalized about dozen Memoranda of Understanding and Protocols.

He widely travelled across the globe. Visited about 25, including P-5, countries.

He was on the Boards of State PSUs, a Defence PSU, IIT Bhubaneswar and Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar as Director, Chairman and CMD.

He is a Member of All India Management Association (AIMA), President of Cuttack Management Association (1999-2005, 2011-2013). He won Young Managers Award in 1982 at national level, instituted by AIMA.

He is an active member of Institute of Directors, an organization proactively involved in promotion of corporate governance and corporate social responsibilities. He is Honorary Chairman of Hyderabad Chapter of IOD.

Political life

During student days and while working as public servant he used to advocate for separate State for Telangana. Due to separate Telangana agitation in 1969, he lost one academic year. However during the separate State agitation from 2000-2014, he indirectly supported the cause. Actively participated during the last stage of Telangana Movement and mobilised the Banjara people to join the movement after his retirement. During the passage of AP Reorganisation Bill, made use of his experience and the contacts and ably assisted the TRS leadership and others. This had brought him close to the political system, particularly Sri K Chandrasekhar Rao Garu. He was made Polit Bureau Member of TRS Party in March 2014 and after TRS Party formed the Government, he was appointed as Special Representative of Telangana in New Delhi, with Cabinet Minister Rank. As a Special Representative, very actively coordinating with central Government for sanctioning of development projects, schemes and programs for faster development of Telangana. Though he doesn't have political background, before joining TRS Party, he got better of political nuances having worked as Secretary to Central Minister, Secretary to Odisha Chief Minister and Secretary to Odisha Governor.

Social activities

In addition he is also working for getting Banajra Bhavan, 12% reservation for ST's and Thandas and Gudems as Grama Panchayats. He strongly believes in cultural rejuvenation of Banjaras. In the process he is promoting traditional Banjara festivals like Seethla and Teej and celebration of Santh Sevalal Jayanthi.

Save Mother Earth is his motto. Emphasizes on conservation of water, soil and energy. Actively involved in Harithaharam program of the State in planting trees.
