Ramachandra Mohapatra (1 January 1905 – 5 May 1975) was born on 1 January 1905 in a village called Sailo Jharapada, 35 kilometres from Cuttack, Odisha and was a freedom fighter.

Family

He was born to a Bramhin Family. He was the second son of Baseudev Mohapatra & Balli Devi.

Early life and education

Educational qualification middle standard. Trained as vernacular teacher from Pattamundai.Worked as primary school teacher in Brahman Sailo, Left the job and joined the freedom movement. Subsequently started a coal business at Kainjanga. Latter left it and joined fully the freedom movement

Political career

Started an ASHRAM in Patasundarpur along with Sarbani Narayan Sengupta, Balaram Choudhury, Baishnab Charan Senapati, Bibhuti Bhusan Acharya and others. He was imprisoned three times.He was kept in Banki and Berhampur Jail. During 2nd world war he was in Berhampur jail.Learned Hindi language in Jail. Inspired by Dr Nrupen Narayan Sengupta, brother of Sarvani Narayan Sengupta he took part in stage drama and latter became a director. He was a very good orator and he recites patriotic songs by Jatiya Kabi Birakishore Roy. In 1941 worked to establish ME school in the village, Became the secretary of the committee. Took part in social activities.

Last years

He sacrificed his whole life for the welfare of his village and people. He was the first Sarpanch of the newly formed Jharapada Gram Panchayat
