Rainbow International School (RIS) is a non-profit private day-school in the Gangnam Area of Seoul, South Korea. RIS is established and operated under the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. The school opened to 1st to 5th grade students in September 2007 and expanded to 6th and 8th grade students in August 2009.

Accreditations and memberships

RIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school is an affiliated member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS), and the Korea Council of Overseas Schools (KORCOS).

Curriculum

RIS teaches students a curriculum, which has three basic elements: content, skills, and assessment. RIS adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and the National Standards for Social Studies. RIS teaches subjects: Language Arts, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Physical Education, and Technology. The RIS offers language instruction in Korean as the host country language and a variety of further language programs: English as a Second Language, First Language (mother tongue) in Korean and Turkish. Instruction in additional languages like French and Spanish is available as after school program.
