History

Radio Guyana International was founded by Chris Persaud (DJ Chris) who, at the time, was looking for a Guyanese entertainment on the internet or a radio station to listen, so he that could connect back to his origin of birth but could not find any. Chris thought that since he couldn't find any, it was best to create his own, and as a result Radio Guyana International was born.

Chris then teamed up with long-time friends Mark Jacobs (Website Admin), Nevil Johnson (DJ Soca Devil), Cleon Lord (Hitman) Shivanand Singh (DJ Shivy of Orlando, Florida), Dj Raj ( Raj Sookdeo)United Kingdom) and started RGI with the focus on all music genres, primarily Caribbean genres - Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Chutney, Chutney Soca, Bollywood, & Calypso. Radio Guyana International was a weekend only station for the first year broadcasting Friday 6pm UK to Sunday 12 AM UK. This is because the Studio had one telephone line that was used for Dial up Internet in the early days. 6 Months later we added a second dedicated telephone line just for internet dial up and began broadcasting 24 hours a day 7days a week. During the week we ran a play list via a 500 Sony CD Juke Box and at weekend we broadcast live with our cd players and mixer in the small studio in London.

In 2004 we upgraded the studio internet connection to Adsl +2 High speed internet and WIFI. This allowed us to have several computers in the studio to reply to listeners shoutouts and the operation of voip telephone systems to allow listeners to call into from the USA, CA and UK. This proved to be very popular with our listeners around the world.

in 2005 We Teamed up With Dj Ava, Dj Sam and DJ Dom from Guyana to bring live broadcast throughout the day and in the evening 98.1 Hot FM when out Dj's were not live on air. The broadcast was using Satellite Internet from Guyana as the Dsl connections from Guyana was very slow and very poor and give us a lot of issues. The Satellite Broadband was provided free of charge to Radio Guyana International.

In 2008 We upgraded our computer system to go fully automated when our djs are not live at the weekend. This allowed us to add more music to our automation library and discontinue our cd Juke box system.

2010 Upgraded Studio Internet to Fiber Optic Broadband and upgraded Voip Telephone Systems with call que and music on hold systems. Upgrade Live phone call Hybread system to take live calls on the air.

in 2014 Radio Guyana International fully refurbished its studios and gone fully digital. We have installed a brand new automation pc, Pioneer DDJ SX Dj Controller, Mac Book Pro 15 Inch, New Boom Mic Stand, Laptop Stand. We also upgraded our Internet box to a more reliable ASUS Gigabit With 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wifi. This has provided much reliability and stable internet connection over the last 2 years.

2016 Brand new Radio Guyana Website launched on February 1, 2016 For our listeners on Mobile, Tablet, Pc and Mac devices. Works is still ongoing on the website.
