Radio Brunel (previously called B1000 and University Radio Brunel) is a student-run university radio station belonging to Brunel University. Shows are broadcast from a ground floor studio at the back of the student union.

1970s–2001
It was one of the first student radio stations to go on the air back in the 1970s. Originally broadcast via the radiators in halls bedrooms, moving room to room like a pirate station, they settled in the ground-floor of Chepstow halls in 1979. After flirting with AM and FM broadcast systems with 30-day FM licenses at the start of term for a number of years including 1995 & 1996 and also pioneering online radio, it, like many student stations, ceased broadcasting due to lack of funding.
2006 – present
In 2006 the station was relaunched under the name Radio Brunel and the stewardship of Ben Moxey as the newly elected Union's Media Office. Limited by its offline broadcast Katie Debrah, host of The Bru and co-host of Audio soup, was one of the first people to provide online podcasts via her Facebook page. This led to many shows offering online versions of their shows. Today, Radio Brunel now functions as an online-only radio station, broadcasting both on and off campus. Ben Moxey was succeeded by Tom Scott in 2010, who attempted to secure the station's future by broadcasting the station in the student bars (Hub and Locos) during the daytime, as well as working on the increased promotion of the station. In 2014 Radio Brunel was re-launched by the Union's Media Association under the Bru-Media banner, managed by Luke Vogel. Bru-Media conglomerated Radio Brunel alongside two other branches of student media funded by the Union of Brunel Students: Le Nurb (newspaper) and Video Brunel. Luke Vogel was succeeded as Station Manager by Becky Collins.
Format
The station features a variety of music and talk shows. Talk and mainstream music programmes generally air during the day, from 10am to 6pm covering news, sports and current affairs, as well as a selection of comedy shows and light entertainment. Specialist music shows are broadcast after 6pm and cover a wide range of genres. During the daytime a playlist is used when there is nobody broadcasting live and presenters are also free to play their own choice of new and old music.
