Robert Joseph "RJ" Scaringe (born January 19, 1983) is an American automotive engineer and entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of Rivian Automotive. Scaringe earned his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a focus on automotive engineering and lean manufacturing.

Education
After graduating first in his class at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Scaringe obtained his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At MIT's Sloan Automotive Laboratory, Scaringe was a member of a research consortium that allowed him to collaborate with top engineers from several major auto companies. Through extensive research and by touring automotive manufacturing facilities worldwide, he identified a need for additional flexibility and efficiency in car manufacturing and engineering systems.
