Questioning Meditation is a kind of meditation. A Korean monk named Dowon (1973~ ) created this term for the first time in 2015. This meditation uses a question in meditation. This method is inspired by the fact that when people are curious about something, they can concentrate well without any distracting thoughts.

Purpose

The purpose of this meditation is attaining Enlightenment. Enlightenment is not something special, but a thing that we get to know that we didn't know before. The bigger a question is, the bigger the enlightenment is. We can experience some enlightenments in life. But most of them are not so powerful as to solve our fundamental questions of life. If we raise fundamental questions and struggle with them until we solve them, we can probably reach the profound enlightenment. Through the ultimate enlightenment we can be free from all sufferings and attain true, eternal happiness.

True self

The most common question in this meditation is "What is my True Self before I was born?". This question is so profound and fundamental that, once you answer this question, you can reach the ultimate enlightenment. But here, there is an important point. In this meditation, the most important thing is checking process. When you find the answer to the question during this meditation, who can check your answer is right or wrong? So the enlightened teacher is essential in this meditation. You necessarily have to be examined by the enlightened teacher when you find out the answer.
