Queerala, the online community of Kerala’s LGBT and sexual minorities, not only gives adequate support to Malayali lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons but also brings related issues and activities to the attention of the mainstream media. Queerala has been active in the academics as well, conducting research on queer-related themes.

Etymology

Queerala gets its name from Queer+ Kerala. The community emphasises on creating awareness in society regarding LGBT issues, and focuses on homosexuality which is a taboo topic.

Media coverage

It brings National and International discussions in the LGBT and related areas to the focus of Kerala’s society, along with empowering the sexual minorities to work for the cause, collectively. With the wholehearted support of other related social movements, they conduct debates on gender equality and sexuality in campuses across Kerala.

Queer Pride Kerala March

Members of Queerala played a pivotal role in conducting the Fifth Kerala Queer Pride in July 2014. The Sixth edition of Queer Pride Kerala march was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram
The Seventh edition of Queer Pride Kerala march was conducted at Kozhikode on 12 August 2016, where hundreds of activists and supporters including V T Balram MLA and the Kozhikode district collector N Prasanth participated
