Qrator (/Cureɪtor/) is an online marketplace for art & design. It has offices in London, UK, as well as in Athens, and Chania, Greece. The company was founded in November, 2011 by Nikolas Ioannidis, a Greek hospitality entrepreneur and former robotics engineer. It made its official launch in May, 2015. The company originally launched as a free online social networking community for creative professionals, but in July, 2017 it pivoted to an online marketplace platform.

Contents

According to its founder, Qrator was created out of a personal vision and retrospect for the world of design. Its featured products include handcrafted furniture, lighting, kitchenware, art, fashion accessories and gadgets.

Functionality

Qrator offers a toolset for sellers to list and sell their products on its platform. It hosts individual e-shops featuring free product listings, social media links, private mailboxes, secure PayPal payment, hotline and live-chat customer support to its members.

Funding

In December 2014, Qrator received a seed funding of $830,000, of which $610,000 comes from PJ Tech Catalyst, which manages funds of Piraeus Bank and the European Investment Fund, while the rest comes from angel investors in the United States and Australia.

Business Model

The company currently makes revenue from commissions on sales. In a recent interview, its founder said he expects a growth of 250% per year.
