Early life

Khalfani began writing poetry as early as elementary school, and was introduced to rap music in the fall of 1979 via the song Rapper's Delight. As a freshman in high school, he his savings on two turntables and a mixer, learned how to make mix tapes, and began DJing at parties. Later in high school, he drifted from his work because of the expense, spent his time on girls and partying, and stopped attending school for most of a semester.

As an army private

In 1988 after graduating over a year late, Khalfani joined the United States Army. In the army, he was accused of being a non-conformist as early as basic training and almost was thrown out for insubordination two and a half years later. He researched the U.S. Army regulations on insubordination and was able to earn his Honorable Discharge in October 1991. He began to consider himself a militant, and he never passed the rank of private, from which he took the name Pvt Militant.

Higher education

After his discharge from the army Khalfani entered a local community college and eventually earned an associate's degree in 1994 and a B.A. in Political Science in 1998. While attending the University of Michigan-Flint campus Khalfani became involved with student politics and was chosen to become the Students of Black Achievement President, but chose to step down and allow another student take the position so he could continue to make change behind the scene. Khalfani earned a master's degree at Wayne State University in 2007 and graduated with the top students of his graduating class.

Music career

While matriculating at the University of Michigan, Khalfani lectured to a group of teenagers on several occasions and managed to continue to record several underground tracks. One of these, "What is a Rhyme Without Substance", led to him being contacted by Bill Tha Pharmacizt to record the song "We Don't Need U" with Public Enemy and Confrontation Camp. After being inspired to rhyme, again after a self-imposed hiatus, several projects came to being and thus spawned the Impossebulls. Hill linked with a local producer Tha Commandant and obtained beats from producers such as Dee-Lo Blackington, Chemiztry The DopeBeat Maker, and C-Doc to complete his debut album One Man Against Many. Khalfani has opened up alongside the Impossebulls for acts such as Public Enemy, Dilated Peoples and Blackalicious. Hill has also appeared on local television shows discussing the music industry and debating politics.

Currently

Khalfani (Alonzo W. Hill) is the President of the African-American Male Librarian Association, finishing up an EP due to be released Fall/Winter 2011 and continues to mentor the youth through the school system.
