The Public Interest Institute (PII) is a nonprofit think tank located on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The organization advocates for limited government. Its stated goal is to "do research on principles and methods to promote and encourage human rights, economic freedom, economic growth, and the creation of jobs here in Iowa." PII does not advocate for or against specific legislation.

Public-private pay gap
In a 2011 study, the organization found that Iowa ranks first nationally in the pay gap between state employees and private-sector workers, a position which Iowa has held for 26 years.
Government transparency
PII operates the website IowaTransparency.org which publishes transparency audits of Iowa counties.
