Promode Mankin (18 April 1939-11 May 2016) was a Bangladeshi Awami League politician and State Minister of Social Welfare Affairs. He was the first among Christian Community to become a government Minister in Bangladesh. Later, his son, Jewel Areng, elected MP after his death in his constituency.

Biography

Mankin was born on 18 April 1939 in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. He joined Awami League in 1991. He was the President of Bangladesh Christian Association. He was elected Member of Parliament from Mymensingh-1 four times. He was a member of the Garo Indigenous Community. He fought in the Bangladesh liberation war. His father was Megha Tozu and mother was Hridoy Cecelia Mankin.

On January 29, 1964 he married Momota Areng. They had five daughters and one son. He died on 11 May 2016 at Holy Family Hospital in Mumbai, India.
