Procottus major is one of the four recognized species of the deepwater sculpin fish genus Procottus, endemic to Lake Baikal, Siberia. It was originally described as a subspecies of Procottus jeittelesii. It dwells at a depth range of 50 to 900 metres (160 to 2,950 ft), most often around 140 to 460 metres (460 to 1,510 ft). Males can reach a total length of 16.7 centimetres (6.6 in).
