It is endemic to the western slopes of the Cordillera Oriental in the Santander Departament, Colombia. Its natural habitat is tropical cloud forests where it occurs on vegetation in the undergrowth. However, it can also be found at forest edges and shrubs in pastures. It is threatened by habitat loss caused by agriculture and cattle ranching.
