Primary elections in Honduras

Primary elections in Honduras are mechanisms by means of which the political parties choose their presidential candidates, and usually occur during the second year of government of an incumbent government. They are not compulsory nor paid for with public funds. The Supreme Electoral Tribunal is the regulatory body for the process.

History

Primary elections in Honduras date from the independence era, where several groups presented candidates within their parties, being the first case the seleccion of the candidates for the first head of state of Honduras, Dionisio of Herrera in where by means of assembly constituent elected Herrera as head of Honduras. During his government creates the first constitucion of Honduras, that serves of base for the right in Honduras.

General elections

Afterwards to know the presidential candidates, these contend by the presidency during the general elections that give a year despues to the primary elections and some months before the finish of the current government.
