History

The hotel which first opened in 1914 was the brainchild of Sotirios Anargiros, a visionary Greek benefactor who was responsible for much of Spetses’ development. Its legendary verandah, during the years has hosted numerous important political, social and cultural events. It was the first hotel in Greece to offer spa treatments at the beginning of the last century, whereby four small pools were filled with warm water and sulphur in order for the treatments to take place.

Renovation

The hotel re-opened in 2009 after a five-year renovation period.

Apart from the historic wing, which houses 38 rooms, a new annex has been included with 17 rooms looking onto the Mediterranean garden and the 17 meter lap pool. Each of the 55 rooms is decorated with a mix of antique and modern furniture with references to the colonial era. Also in keeping with modern times, a 300 square meter spa has been added.

The hotel has won numerous prestigious international and domestic awards, including Conde Nast Traveller Hot List 2010, Europe's Leading New Boutique Hotel 2010, Conde Nast Greece Readers Award 2011. In keeping with this tradition, Poseidonion Grand Hotel is accommodation sponsor for the second Spetses Classic Yacht Race organized by the Yacht Club of Greece (21–24 June 2012) and the second Spetses Mini Marathon (12–14 October 2012).
