History

The port begins its history in 1880’s In the early 1900s a fishing fleet that worked in Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca became the base of several larger boats working the fishing grounds of Alaska, under sails, for salmon and cod. In the 1950s, local ferries and the “mosquito fleet” of steamboats to and from Kitsap County and Seattle serviced the port and city. The harbor was home to a codfish fleet and had several fish processing plants and oyster beds. In the 1960s the harbor still retained it fishing history with a great number of working vessels and in 1964 the Port of Poulsbo was formally created as a port.
