Pontomyia Edwards, 1926 is an insect genus belonging to the subfamily Chironominae in the Chironomidae family. This is a marine flightless midge. There are only four species completely described in this genus (P. natans Edward 1924; P. cottoni Wormersley 1937; P. pacifica Tokunaga 1964; and P. oceana Tokunaga 1964) and another possible species was recorded by Epler but only in the immature form. Recently one Pontomyia very similar to the species recorded by Epler was found in Brazil.
