Early life
Ponnambalam was a sportsman who was active in gymnastics and other sporting activities. He became a national high-jump champion in 1984. He had six sisters to support, so he entered in cinema field.
Cinema career
He made his debut in cinema as a stuntman. He got his first break into films with the blockbuster Walter Vetrivel in which he played the role of the villain Kabali. He received the nickname "Spare Parts" Ponnambalam because no part of his body was ever injured or fractured.
Political career
Ponnambalam joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in February 2011, beginning a career in politics.
