History, Aim and Direction
Polba Mahavidyalaya is set up in a serene picturesque rural environment where peace reigns and transcendent academic atmosphere pervades thereby ensuring quality amelioration and excellence in the sphere of Higher Education. Polba Mahavidyalaya is a co-educational Degree College affiliated to the University of Burdwan. Because of persistent endeavors and indefatigable inflatus of local people the college has come into existence and has taken the present form. A continuous process of academic and infrastructural development is an inseparable part of the College. It has shown exceptional improvement since its inception on 19 September 2005. The total population of Polba-Dadpur Block is 239493 of which 34.83% belongs to Scheduled Caste and 12.05% belongs to Scheduled Tribe communities as per availability of latest report. Polba Mahavidyalaya is the only college in this Polba-Dadpur Block and this block has been earmarked as Integrated Tribal Development Block. Thus the college has a crucial role to play in the direction of development of "backward groups" and providing social justice.
Under the able guidance of Dr. Sushanta Kumar Mazumdar, the college despite being one of the youngest colleges of the district has made its mark in creating a sound academic environment.The college aims at encouraging and inculcating the spirit of higher education among the students from the remote parts of Hooghly. It believes in a disciplined yet liberal practice of academics to achieve excellence. The college aims at constant expansion and development of infrastructure and development. Its current plan is extension of affiliation of Science Stream and construction of Building for extending facilities of Science Teaching-Learning at this Mahavidyalaya such that poor and ST students in particular and other students in general get scope to enroll in Science subjects.
