Demographics

The population of Pokhrama पोखरामा is about 4000 with a literacy rate of about 66%. The 90% of population of the village depend on cultivation only. Historically the village is known for its Garh गढ़ (stronghold) made in the reign either of John Cartier or Warren Hastings (Governor general of Bengal) that is located in the middle-east point of the village although there is a tale that it has an active role in the war between Moghal King Humayun and King Shershah but in fact there is no proof of it. According to the old records the first person (Puranchand Singh) came to this place to live in was from गढ़ सुसरी (Garh Susaree)in the District Darbhanga. The first person who joined this place from Garh Susaree, was named Baba Atri Mishra (बाबा अतरी मिश्र). Later on he had four sons named (1) Maina Mishra, (Village Egh एघ इन Begusarai) (2) Gopinath Mishra returned back to Garh Susaree (3) Shreenath Mishra by whome the village Pokhrama is in being, and (4) Chirai Mishra (चिड़ैंय मिश्र) lateral generations either created Chhitraur, Rahatpur, Sadanpur, Bhairwar, Safapur, Ramchandrapur, Bijulia, Saidpura,Ramnagar, mohanpur etc and some of them accepted Islam too. Out of these three, two have also made their own different villages (Pawai and Jajbara, Dularpur). They were not living as Permanent livers for Dasyus (Robbers) were disturbing their lives; and demanding taxes from them. After Baba Andher Singh's death, his third grandson Baba Pratap Thakur was recruited in the force of East India Company against the post of Subedar as a result of which the officers of Robert Clive promised him to give security to his two brothers (Jauje Singh and Rajkishor Singh). The village is also known for the famous Surya Mandir (Sun Temple). The Gautam Budha's relics found in village Pokhrama, Uren and near by villages are to establish that the areas were abode of Budha at the time. The range of Shringi-Rishi mountain was the anti social action place of Daku Angulimal who was taught by Gautam Budha and then became Budha's follower..
