Plateaux District is a district located in the Bandundu Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Under the 2006 constitution the district was to become part of the proposed Mai-Ndombe province, effective no later than February 2009. However, as of October 2011 the change had not been implemented.
Location
The district lies on the east bank of the Congo River, opposite the Republic of the Congo to the west. The Kwah River forms its southern boundary. The district is within the Tumba-Ngiri-Maindombe area, the largest Wetland of International Importance recognized by the Ramsar Convention in the world. Plateaux includes the Bolobo, Kwamouth, Mushie and Yumbi territories, and the towns of Bolobo and Mushie.
