History

Pixelmatic originally came together as a side project in 2008 to build Facebook apps and games. Pixelmatic launched Gamerbook, the company’s first Facebook application intended to connect gamers on Facebook.

Pixelmatic was officially founded in September 2011, and was operational since June 2012, when a round of seed funding was procured. Founded by Samson Mow, its core team comes from veterans of gaming companies such as Relic Entertainment, Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard. Pixelmatic was re-established to focus on social mobile games due to the opportunity in the market for games that emphasize connecting people. Pixelmatic has their main development center in Shanghai and a support office in Vancouver.

Games developed

In November 2013, Pixelmatic launched its first game, Gem Wizard in Japan on the Mobage platform. Gem Wizard is a mobile game that has its own take on the Match-3 game formula. The game combines match-three with RPG-inspired item collecting and crafting. Gem Wizard launched worldwide in March 2014 for iOS and Android devices and has also been localized in nine different languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Korean, as well as Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

Pixelmatic has hinted at a new title in development to be a 3D space combat strategy game with a directed narrative.
