Biography
Yovanovitch’s career started in 1990. He worked with Pierre Cardin on the men’s fashion lines of the couture house, first in Brussels then in Paris, up to 2000. In 2001, he started his own Agency “Pierre Yovanovitch Architecture d’Intérieur”. He produced residential, institutional and commercial projects in France, Belgium, Switzerland, England, Israel and the United States.
He conceived scenographies for various exhibitions among which, in September 2006, a show held in a Parisian apartment, celebrating the Swedish designer Axel Einar Hjorth and, in October 2013, an exhibition around the theme of Scandinavian Design vs American and Brazilian design, commissioned by the Auction House Piasa Rive Gauche. In 2015, Yovanovitch delivered a new private museum, La Patinoire Royale, located in Saint Gilles, a neighborhood of Brussels. He was in charge of the interior architecture and composed the scenography for the inaugural show “La Résistance des Images”.
Four years in a row, Yovanovitch participated in the AD France show house (2010-2014) AD Intérieurs, creating for each new session a room around a given theme. This event took place first at Artcurial (2010, 2011, 2012), then at the Clos des Bernadins (2013) and at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (2014). In January 2011, he created the scenography of the Hermès International/Puiforcat booth at Maison & Objet. Yovanovitch's first hotel, the five-star Hôtel Marignan in Paris, was inaugurated in 2012. In 2013, he unveiled a major project on which he has been working for four years: a XVII century castle in Provence. He also designs custom made furniture in wood, metal or ceramic.
Pierre Yovanovitch brings to the world of interior design and decoration what the magazine AD France states as a new style “Made in France”: bringing together the best of French artisanal know how while staying tuned in to foreign talents and influences. Harmonious volumes and clean lines confer sobriety and strength to Yovanovitch’s interior architectures. The Press underlines, his taste for authentic materials (marble, bronze, metal, ceramic, wood and stone), and his subtle plays of light which include sculptural hollowed out ceilings with integrated lighting.
With his eclectic approach, Yovanovitch is attracted by the XX century and contemporary Nordic creation (Frits Henningsen, Axel Einar Hjorth, Paavo Tynell, Flemming Lassen, Rasmus Fenhann, Harri Koskinnen) as well as the American (Paul Laszlo, Paul Frankl, Robsjohn-Gibbings, James Mont, Harvey Probber) and French one (Robert Mallet-Steavens, Paul Dupré-Lafon, Jean-Michel Frank). He values applied arts such as ceramic and design. In the field of architecture he favors the XVII century and among the contemporary architects: Sanaa, Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, John Pawson, Herzog & De Meuron. A collector himself, Yovanovitch is keen on design and contemporary art which he likes to include in his different projects (among his favorite artists are Georg Baselitz, Rosemarie Trockel, Johan Creten, Nendo, Thomas Schütte, Wilhelm Sasnal, Camille Henrot et Adel Abdessemed)
He designs custom made furniture in wood, metal or ceramic. In constant evolution, Pierre Yovanovitch’s style remains committed to a purist vision of interior architecture: an elegant and sober approach bound to a real understanding of today’s lifestyle and love of comfort.
