Background and training
Press was born in New York in 1965. At age 15, he apprenticed to a European master craftsman and platinumsmith. Press learned Art Deco techniques and an acute attention to detail, which included using dental floss to polish intricate details. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1990 to open his own jewelry design and manufacturing business.
Career
In 1991 Press founded Philip Press, Inc. on Beverly Boulevard in West Hollywood, CA., and later moved his studio and workshop to the Sunset Strip in 1999. The jeweler and his designs have been featured on the Red carpet at the Academy Awards and in fashion and bridal media. In 2011 Press became the diamond and jewelry expert for Fine Living Network and began serving as the jewelry expert for the news program America Now, which is broadcast across the United States on stations owned by Raycom Media.
Philanthropy
Press has aided the Foundations of the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Fire Department. Press began serving on the board of the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation in 2011.
