Biography

He is professor of University of British Columbia. He has taught at University of Calgary, University of Montreal, University of Hong Kong and University of Otago. Founder and director of International Institute for Pregnancy Loss and Child Abuse Research and Recovery (IIPLCARR) and International Hope Alive Counselors Association (IHACA).

In July 2017, Philip Ney was charged with cruelty to animals after his dog died from neglect. According to the B.C. SPCA, Ney’s mixed-breed dog named Star had given birth to many litters of puppies over the year, including 14 puppies in January. B.C. SPCA said only five of the puppies born in January survived, and Ney believed the rest died from exposure to the elements. Ney had taken his dog to two vets who refused to treat her - one because they were too busy, and the second only on payment of an exorbitant rate. He was forced to choose between very expensive surgery, euthanasia or a more conservative treatment at home. Reluctantly he chose the latter, treating the dog with antibiotics, because his first priority was to provide funds for orphans in Africa who were dependent on his support for food & water.

Research

He has conducted research in child abuse and its connection to abortion. He has authored or co-authored 7 books and 66 scientific papers.

He has created Hope Alive method of psychotherapy.
