Perry Mark Stratychuk (born in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is an independent Canadian filmmaker, writer, musician, poet, and actor. Described as a "natural artist", he is a film director, cinematographer, and producer in several genres such as experimental short films, music videos, and documentaries, his 1987 production, the first science-fiction feature film produced in Winnipeg Savannah Electric (1987 movie) was reviewed by Geoff Pevere in movie periodical Cinema Canada. Perry Mark Stratychuk spent several years at The National Film Board of Canada's English Production Studio in Winnipeg where, as Technical Coordinator, he provided assistance to local independent filmmakers, such as Guy Maddin, as part of the NFB's PAFPS program and worked on several NFB productions, for most of which he received no film credit. One exception was the film "The Crown Prince" where he received a film credit from the director Aaron Kim Johnston. Stratychuk also played the character of Curtis in "A Way Out" (1986 TV Drama) by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
In the 1990s following studies in industrial design and computer animation he wrote and directed 3D animation segments for the Canadian edition of Sesame Street in conjunction with the CBC and worked there as Assistant to the Producer and Supervising Editor, while working as a freelance technical illustrator. Following his work at the CBC, he produced animation and video productions for The Western Canada Aviation Museum and the Manitoba Planetarium, later spending several years employed in both analog and digital photography.
Perry has recorded electronic music since 1984, when he released a 7" vinyl EP for his film A Soft Look, a soundtrack influenced by Brian Eno and Ryuichi Sakamoto. As well as numerous albums since, for his independent record label Twisted Mind Records, he has produced digital CD albums under his own name and alternately as "The Freedom of Information Age", and "Vampyre's Lyre", including a project using his custom production process "Superelectroganics".
His musical work is predominantly in electronic composition covering the genres of techno, electronica, ambient, minimalist, space rock, improvisational jazz, and dark ambient. He has scored all of his film and video projects except His First Million which features music by Michael Stuart, and Savannah Electric:Monochrome Dystopia which features Canadian musician Tom Paterson as the soundtrack's primary composer.
In 2015, he relocated to Tianjin, China, where he worked as a freelance videographer, sound designer, and taught conversational English to students of the Civil Aviation University of China, in the Dongli District. While in Tianjin, he produced, directed, photographed, and edited the short films China Doors (2016 film) and A Street With No Name (2016 film).
