The Pennsylvania Department of General Services (DGS) is an agency of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania that is responsible for the purchasing of goods and services for the state government. The DGS also "maintains and protects" buildings owned by the state government. The DGS was formed, on July 22, 1975, when the Department of Property and Supplies and the General State Authority were merged into the Department of General Services.

    The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Cooperative Purchasing Program (COSTARS)

  • Path for which eligible local public procurement units and state - affiliated entities are capable of leveraging contracts, which are established by the DGS, in order to efficiently identify suppliers.

    When the department longer sees the need for use of a specific piece of property, it will see if another department is in need of it; however, if no other department needs it, it will be classified as surplus and be sold in a various of ways.
