Chris Glover grew up in New York City's Upper East Side. His early musical influences came mostly from his mother who loved country music. Glover's favorite artists growing up included Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Hank Williams. He showed an interest in performing music at an early age when he joined his school's gospel choir at age 10, singing alongside future R&B artist Alicia Keys. While a teen, he performed at the legendary CBGB's with his punk band The Museum. He attended the prestigious Bard College , where he formed a popular "crazy, fake boy band" called The Smartest People At Bard, which he describes as "a cross between Backstreet Boys and Beastie Boys".

Career

Musician and sole member of Penguin Prison, Chris Glover, had already made several attempts to get into the music industry before founding Penguin Prison. He first became known under this moniker for his, in the words of BBC Music's Tom Hocknell, "immaculate" remixes. Glover's debut release as Penguin Prison was the Animal Animal/A Funny Thing EP in 2009, with the album Penguin Prison released on the 5th of September 2011.
