Pen Dalton was born in England in 1944. She trained at Goldsmiths, University of London and Brighton University and gained a PhD in Creative studies from Plymouth University in 2008. She taught studio practice and psychology at Dartington College of Arts and Birmingham City University.

Dalton is a painter, and academic whose work draws on feminist theory. Her work is in the collections of the Musée de l'Affiche, Paris, The Priseman Seabrook Collection, Swindon Art Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. In 2001 her book ‘The Gendering of Art Education : Modernism, Identity and Critical Feminism’ was published by Open University Press.
