Design and development

The aircraft was designed as a tandem glider for flight training and as such was referred to as the Discus Bi, indicating "bi-place" or two seater.

The design progressed through two generations of models, the Discus 1 and 2, each improving on the last. The models are each named for their approximate wing area in square metres.

Variants

Discus 2 40 Bi

Small-sized model for lighter pilots. Its 13.7 m (44.9 ft) span wing has a wing area of 39.7 m² (427 sq ft), 46 cells and the aspect ratio is 4.7:1. The pilot weight range is 130 to 180 kg (287 to 397 lb).>

Discus 2 45 Bi

Large-sized model for heavier pilots. Its 15.0 m (49.2 ft) span wing has a wing area of 44.5 m² (479 sq ft), 50 cells and the aspect ratio is 5.1:1. The pilot weight range is 150 to 220 kg (331 to 485 lb).
