Mass grave

Pečovje is the site of a mass grave from the period immediately after the Second World War. It is part of the 25 mass graves in the Celje area. The Pečovnik Mass Grave (Slovene: Grobišče Pečovnik) is located near the house at Zvodno no. 72 in a trench that was later filled and then covered with timber, concrete, and soil, or in a shaft about 30 m southwest of this trench. The shaft has a 35% grade and has also been backfilled and leveled with the terrain. The grave contains the remains of 5,000 to 10,000 victims that were murdered in May and June 1945.
