The pavonine quetzal (Pharomachrus pavoninus) is a species of bird in the family Trogonidae, the trogons. It is found in the Amazon basin of the North Region, Brazil, Amazonian Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and northern Bolivia; also regions of Venezuela.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

The pavonine quetzal is a bird of the Amazon basin, and in Venezuela the upper third of the Caribbean north-flowing Orinoco River basin and east and southeastwards into neighboring Roraima state Brazil. In the central Amazon basin its southeastwards limit is the lower two thirds of the Tapajós River drainage; westwards the quetzal ranges to the foothills of the Andes, from very northern Bolivia, eastern Peru and Ecuador, and southeastern Colombia.
