Biography

Paulo Giovanni was born in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, in 1950. The son of João Jacinto Servolo and Zélia Wilbert Servolo, he graduated with a degree in Economics from Catholic University of Petrópolis and has an MBA in Marketing, Planning, and Business.

Giovanni began his professional career when he was about 16 years old, by working as a junior employee at a radio station called Rádio Imperial in his hometown.

In 1968, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to make his debut on a radio program on Radio Tupi AM. Three years later, he was the youngest communicator of the station to be invited to host a program on Radio Globo AM, where he adapted his own name especially for the program: Paulo Giovanni, the name he has come to be known by ever since.

Advertising career

Giovanni transitioned from radio to advertising in 1973, and in 1993 founded Giovanni Comunicações. Five years later, the agency partnered with Draft FCB, owned by Interpublic Group. The partnership made Giovanni + Draft FCB become one of the 10 largest advertising agencies in the country.

Giovanni left the group in 2007 and created two promotional marketing agencies called Mix Brand Experience – one of the most awarded in the field, and Pop Trade Marketing – considered the largest POS strategy companies in the country.

In early 2011, after spending some time away from the market, Giovanni founded Tailor Made, which, a few months later, was sold to American enterprise Leo Burnett, based in Chicago. With the transaction, the agency was renamed Leo Burnett Tailor Made, and was among the 10 most awarded agencies in 2014, according to the ranking from Advertising Age, and was the second Brazilian advertising agency to receive the most Lion Awards at the Cannes International Festival that the same year.

Also in 2011, Giovanni was named "Entrepreneur of the Communications Industry" at the Caboré Awards, sponsored by Editora Meio & Mensagem.

In 2014, he became chairman of Publicis Worldwide, a post he held until 2016, at the invitation of Maurice Lévy, chairman and CEO of the group. Also in 2014, Giovanni was inducted to the Brazilian Marketing Hall of Fame by the Brazilian Marketing Academy.

He was also considered "Brazil's Marketing Man" at the 2015 Marketing Best Awards.
