Paulo Cesar Duque-Estrada is a professor of contemporary philosophy and Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs (Graduate Programs and Research) at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).

He was the President of the Forum of Brazilian Vice-presidents for Research and Graduate Studies (FOPROP) during the 2012-2013 academic year, after serving as Vice-President in 2011-2012 and Executive Secretary in 2010-2011.

Education

He received both his B.A. and M.A. from PUC-Rio, and his Ph.D. from Boston College. In 1999-2000 he developed a post-doctoral research program on the subject of Hermeneutics and Deconstruction at the New School for Social Research, New York.

Study Group in Ethics and Deconstruction

He was the first scholar to bring Derrida's thought to the field of Philosophy within the academic environment in Brazil.

In 2002 he founded, along with some of his post-graduate students, the Study Group in Ethics and Deconstruction (NEED- Núcleo de Estudos em Ética e Desconstrução), dedicated to the thought of the French philosopher Jacques Derrida.
