Paul Arthur Magnuson (born February 9, 1937) is a Senior United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota.

Education and career
Magnuson was born in Carthage, South Dakota, a small town in the eastern part of the state. He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959, having served as president of the student body and an active member of the College Republicans. He graduated from William Mitchell College of Law with a Juris Doctor in 1963. After law school, Magnuson entered private practice in the South St. Paul, Minnesota law firm of LeVander, Gillen & Miller. Magnuson worked at the LeVander law firm for eighteen years, eventually becoming a partner. Magnuson served as an adjunct faculty member at the William Mitchell College of Law from 1982 to 1989 and served as an instructor at the Hamline University School of Law from 1987 to 1989.
Federal judicial service
Magnuson was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on September 28, 1981, to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota vacated by Judge Edward Devitt. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 29, 1981, and received commission on October 29, 1981. He served as Chief Judge from 1994 to 2001. He assumed senior status on February 9, 2002.
