Patrick Karney is a Labour Party local councillor for the ward of Harpurhey, in the city of Manchester, in North West England, having been a Manchester City Council councillor since 1979 with his current term in Harpurhey being until 2018.

He was born in Dublin and came to Manchester as a child.

He serves on the Communities and Neighbourhoods, and Constitutional and Nomination (Deputy Chair) committees, and also has responsibilities for the city centre. He is the NHS Director of Tobacco Free Greater Manchester.

Views

During the night of the August 2011 riots reaching Manchester, Karney witnessed and spoke at a GMP press conference, saying that the violence marked "one of the worst days that Manchester has ever seen"
