Patnubay B. Tiamson (popularly known as 'Sir Pat'), is the current head of the Municipal Tourism Culture and Arts office of Angono, Rizal.

Early Life

Tiamson was born in Angono, Rizal. He finished his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman on 1993. He was a former head of the Filipino Department of Miriam College and is presently a lecturer of History and Filipino at the Entrepreneurs School of Asia.

Mr. Tiamson served as provincial editor of the Southern Tagalog Herald and he also was editor of the books Angono Rizal Books 6-10, Dangal ng Angono, and Sanaysay: Pananaliksik sa Wika at Panitikan. He has been able to teach in prestigious colleges and universities such as UP Manila, Mapua Institute of Technology, St. Paul College Manila, St. Scholastica’s College, Don Bosco Technical College and Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Patnubay was appointed as Tourism Officer of Angono in 2010. As tourism head of the Art Capital of the Philippines, Mr. Tiamson has spearheaded several programs which centered on strengthening arts and culture which are the foundation of tourism in Angono. He made the local artists more visible by laying out quarterly activities which may simply be enumerated as follows: Arts Month, Summer Arts Festival, Angono Foundation Month and the Higantes Festival.

Mr. Tiamson also made Angono a household name through his efforts in promoting Angono through mass and social media. Angono has been featured in several television variety and magazine shows, the frequency of which is unprecedented in the history of Angono. Through the coordination of Mr. Tiamson, Angono has become an active participant in several national and international events. In August 2010, during his first month as tourism officer, Angono was named as one of UNESCO’s ASEAN Culture capital and the town served as host for the representatives from other ASEAN countries and the National Commission for Culture and Arts.

Because of his selfless dedication, Mr. Tiamson was awarded the Gawad Jaime P. De Veyra by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino in 2011. After receiving this award, he continued to work with the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino by organizing a National Seminar for teachers.

In 2012, Mr. Tiamson also served as project coordinator for the San Pedro Calungsod visual narrative wherein several Angono artists created paintings about the life of Saint Pedro Calungsod.

In 2013, Mr. Tiamson was recognized as one of Angono’s Outstanding Citizens. The awards received by Patnubay continue to inspire him as strives to make Angono truly a haven for nurturing artists. Patnubay untiringly organizes exhibits for both veteran and budding artists of Angono which also indirectly boosts the economy of Angono through the increase in the number of tourists who visit the Philippine Art Capital.

On October 4, 2014, Mr. Tiamson was selected as The Most Outstanding Tourism Officer of the Philippines for the year 2014. This award was given by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines. This is the first time that a tourism officer from the Province of Rizal has won the said award.
