Early life

His father Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa is Akali Dal General Secretary, former Union minister and Rajya Sabha member. He has studied MBA and B Com. He is married to Gagandeep Kaur Dhindsa.
Political career

He was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2002 on a Akali Dal ticket from Sunam for first time. He was re-elected from Sunam in 2007 and 2012. In 2007, he was made cabinet minister and given portfolio of PWD. After 2012 elections, he was made minister of finance as predecessor Upinderjit Kaur lost her elections.
In the state assembly elections to be held 2017, Akali Dal has not given him ticket from Sunam constituency, the constituency from which he has won last 3 assembly elections. Instead, he will contest the elections from Lehra constituency in Sangrur district. Smt. Rajinder Kaur Bhathal, ex CM of Punjab and senior leader of Congress party is the sitting MLA from Lehra constituency and is most likely to contest from the same constituency in the next elections.
