A paleocontinent or palaeocontinent is a distinct area of continental crust that existed as a major landmass in the geological past. Examples include Laurentia, Baltica and Avalonia, which collided together during the Caledonian orogeny to form the Old Red Sandstone paleocontinent of Laurussia.
